Let us see more into the tree and the fruit.

The Acai TreeThe açaí palm (Euterpe oleracea) is a species of palm tree in the genus Euterpe cultivated for their fruit and superior hearts of palm. Its name comes from the Portuguese adaptation of the Tupian word ïwaca’i, ‘[fruit that] cries or expels water’. Global demand for the fruit has expanded rapidly in recent years, and açaí is now cultivated for that purpose primarily. The closely related species Euterpe edulis (juçara) is now predominantly used for hearts of palm.

Eight species are native to Central and South America, from Belize southward to Brazil and Peru, growing mainly in swamps and floodplains. Açaí palms are tall, slender palms growing to 15–30 meters, with pinnate leaves up to 3 meters long.

The acai palm is a member of the palm tree species and is one of the most celebrated trees of the moment. It was first discovered by the people near the Amazon and has been used by the native ever since, particularly its fruit. It thrives in waterlogged and swampy areas and it is also fruitful when grown in warm environments. That is why most producers and manufacturers open Acai farms in tropical and subtropical countries. The tree itself is sturdy, can rise to about 15 to 30 meters in height and its leaves can grow to about 3 meters long. Despite the fruit being the star of the tree, other parts have also been used locally. Leaves are used as roofs by the locals and they can be dried as well. These dried leaves are made into hats, mats and baskets. The trunk is also very durable to use for furniture because of its ability to stand against termites.

A tiny, round, grape-like object that is about 1 inch or 25 mm in circumference is the wonder fruit everybody is talking about. Color of the Acai berry is different depending on the maturity of the berry. It can be deep purple, white or green. The fruit is composed of 20% pulp and 80% seed. The pulp is approximately 1mm thick and the seed that is 7 to 10mm thick. The fruit is only harvested twice a year and a harvest can yield 500 to 900 Acai berries per tree. But despite its small size, it contains many nutrients that our body needs. It contains antioxidants, proteins, carbohydrates, fats and even omega 3, which is very good for the heart. The Acai berry has been part of the Brazilian diet for a very long time and it has been proven to be safe and effective. The natives of the Amazon has even used the fruit for medicinal purposes like curing diarrhea, skin sores, flu and other viral diseases. It is even said that the fruit can help in preventing cancer and can help you maintain your youthful look. But what makes it truly appealing to all is that it claims to be able to help in losing weight and help keep it off.
